Position Overview

Based in Washington, DC or remotely, the Intern role serves in a communications support role to enable strong external and internal information sharing and creative storytelling to advance UNF and our partners' global health work and policy objectives.

Essential Functions

  • Support and facilitate strong global health communications for the UN Foundation including, inter alia:
    • Work under the direction of the Senior Communications and Advocacy Officer, Global Health, to manage UNF's internal and external global health communications.
    • Work with other Global Health, Public Affairs, and other health-related campaigns/alliances team members.
    • Support planning and execution of global health initiative communications plans, including:
      • Create health-related social media content across multiple social media platforms
      • Develop content for UNF blogs and other storytelling opportunities
      • Contribute to the development of a global health newsletter
      • Track and report on the performance of UNF global health content
      • Track media coverage relevant to UNF's global health goals
      • Assist with planning global health-related events and webinars
      • Produce graphics, videos, or other multimedia content as needed
    • Monitor and share relevant updates and communications surrounding WHO's coordination and leadership on global health issues.
  • Support and facilitate UNF's communications work around major global health moments and observance days, including:
    • UN General Assembly
    • Pledging moments for global health initiatives, such as the Global Fund and GPEI
    • World Mental Health Day
    • World Health Summit
    • World Polio Day
    • World AIDS Day
    • Universal Health Coverage Day
  • Provide research and writing support to Global Health team, including briefing papers, executive summaries, analyses, and presentations on above topics, or others as assigned.
  • Prepare for a final presentation on projects worked on/completed during the internship.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Selection Criteria

  • Candidate must be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the internship or must be a recent graduate (within 8 months of graduation) of a college or university.
  • Familiarity with global health issues (especially COVID-19, preparation for future health emergencies, immunization, malaria, and universal health coverage) and the United Nations system and agencies (especially WHO).
  • Communications and public relations skills and experience such as: email newsletter management, media and social media tracking and analytics, web design and content management, graphic design, and Salesforce.
  • Ability to write engaging content for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle stress.
  • Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
  • Must have a personal laptop computer and access to the Internet.
  • Must be available to work a maximum of 29 hours per week.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
