Position Summary:

The Safety Specialist oversees and drives the adaptation and implementation of policies and programs to maintain and improve Benco's award winning safety culture. The role is responsible for serving as Benco's sole safety compliance and training resource for associate safety-related issues; serving as Culture and People safety representative in the field to communicate the safety culture and expert resource for OSHA compliance/infection control issues; and overseeing general safety and risk management.

Do These Responsibilities Interest YOU?

  • Maintains and updates Benco's Master Safety Manual and evacuation plans.

  • Designs and conducts safety training for all Benco associates, including but not limited to, new hire safety training, annual OSHA training, workplace violence training, etc.

  • Lead the Benco Safety Committee, reviews committee audits and findings, and implements recommendations, as applicable.

  • Schedules and leads the safety inspections of all Benco locations. Manages and assists outside regulatory visits. Informs management on any issues that may exist and takes corrective actions to stay in compliance with regulations.

  • Manages or assists in directing and coordinating all safety and health related activities for Benco to prevent occupational injury/illness related losses and minimize future liabilities by evaluating risks and establishing appropriate loss control/reduction activities.

  • Designs, implements, and oversees all communication involving the safety committee, safety alerts, and safety postings that support safety and health awareness of the preventions of injuries for all employees.

  • Effectively serves as Benco's safety liaison with external organizations, such as utility companies, insurance, emergency services, etc.

  • Coordinates safety drills and spot inspections (fire, spills, etc.) at all locations.

  • Oversees the first responders' program at all Benco locations. This includes, but is not limited to, coordinating all training, developing responder guidelines, and retaining response forms.

  • Tracks the compliance of radiation badges and Hepatitis B vaccinations for all applicable positions.

  • Maintains the First Aid Stations at all Benco locations.

  • Driver's Safety - Monitors and responds to all Benco Driver's Alerts, including any follow-up action. Responsible for the ongoing monitoring of MVRs for all Field Service and Sales associates.

  • Serves as initial contact for all Benco automobile accidents. Schedules and monitors all post-accident drug and alcohol screening, if applicable.

  • Chairs the Benco Accident Review Committee (BARC).

  • Partner with Worker's Comp departmental liaison to ensure related policies and procedures are identified to correct deficiencies and partner to conduct associate trainings as needed

  • Conduct quarterly claims review meetings with the carrier and third-party administrator.

  • Create and maintain electronic OSHA 300 and 300A records ensuring accuracy and completeness for all reporting and work locations.

  • Implement predictive analytics to identify trends and areas of opportunity.

  • Supports other Culture & People Department initiatives such as serving as a mentor for teammates, actively participating in community relations, and performs other duties as assigned.

Do YOU Meet These Requirements?

  • 4-6 years of experience working in or managing an enterprise safety program

  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Industrial Safety, Safety Engineering, Safety Management, Human Resources or a closely related field

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred
