Summer Internship Program:
URC is searching for a paid summer intern to support URC's Global Ethics and Compliance Office. The summer internship program at URC is designed to develop highly motivated, engaged learners, and diverse emerging talent who wish to make an impact in international development. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to engage with URC colleagues and benefit from an engaging learning environment.

Overview:
The primary role of URC's Global Ethics and Compliance Office (Office) is to foster a culture of trust and respect, both internally and externally, in URC's ethics and compliance framework, reporting, incident management, and follow up procedures. Mutual trust and respect between key organizational functions and the Office is fundamental to ensure the well-functioning of an ethical and compliant organization. Success requires a mindset of collaboration with all functions at all organizational levels of URC and applying our cultural values to the performance of our work. This is accomplished through both real-time and "as needed" support to U.S.-based staff and staff based internationally on URC's project teams.

The Office is expanding an existing infrastructure, systems and processes to meet internal, contractual and legal obligations and developing appropriate compliance strategies, training and initiatives necessary to minimize noncompliance and/or unethical conduct within URC and those working on behalf of URC. The Office oversees case management and investigations of all reports of compliance and ethics violations including harassment, trafficking, sexual exploitation and abuse, fraud, corruption, and other Code of Conduct and organizational values alleged breaches.

Responsibilities:
Specific responsibilities include the following:
Systems Support
  • Support system improvements within the company;
  • Inventory of existing tools, templates and policies;
  • Help identify the processes and tools to be standardized;
  • Help develop a centralized way to track conflict of interest information for HQ use;
  • Assess programs to educate and communicate the importance of ethical behavior to all employees, vendors, consultants and grantees;
  • Support solutions for information dissemination to project staff and in various languages;
  • Support communication with the field project staff.
Compliance and Incident Reporting
  • Support the assessment of compliance reporting; and communication from the field in general;
  • Develop recommendations on systems improvements to increase communication with the field.
Additional and other responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Administrative support for the Chief Compliance and Ethics Officer and the Senior Director for Global Compliance for URC;
  • Scanning and organizing case management;
  • Serving on priority special projects;
  • Attending relevant internal and external events; and
  • Other tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to manage and execute multiple concurrent tasks with minimal supervision;
  • Organized and detail-oriented;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to manage and work effectively in team settings;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Qualifications:
Required Experience and Qualifications
  • Education: Be enrolled in a Bachelor or Masters degree program in law, business administration, accounting, international relations or related field;
  • Experience: Some exposure to project implementation and/or international work;
  • Demonstrated interest in compliance and ethics in the public sector.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications
  • Basic knowledge of a foreign language, such as French or Arabic.
Physical Demands
  • This assignment involves prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer;
  • This position operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc.;
  • This position may require travel to the URC Headquarters Office several times;
  • This position may require vision, hearing, talking, standing, sitting, walking, and/or lifting.
